CTZ-MCI-6 Model Six Stage Microbial (Viable) Cascade Impactor (Air Sampler) is multi-orifice. Microbial (Viable) Cascade Impactors used to measure the concentration and particle size distribution of aerobic bacteria and fungi in the intramural or ambient air. These units have been widely used for enumerating the viable particles in a microbial aerosol.

Viable particles can be collected on a variety of bacteriological agar and incubated for counting or identification. Designed with precision, these samplers ensure that all collected particles, regardless of their physical size, shape, or density, are aerodynamically sized. Consequently, this facilitates a direct correlation with human lung deposition. The multi-orifice cascade impactor size-selective feature permits the assessment of an airborne contaminant in relation to its disease potential arising from its deposition site within the respiratory tract.

The CTZ-MCI-6 Model Six Stage Microbial (Viable) Cascade Impactor requires Petri dishes. The Petri dishes are removed after the sampling, incubated, and counted by an accepted method.

CTZ-MCI-6 Six Stage Microbial (Viable) Cascade Impactor is constructed with six aluminum stages that are held together by three spring clamps and sealed with 0-ring gaskets. Each impactor stage contains multiple-precision drilled orifices. As air passes through the sampler, numerous air jets within each stage channel airborne particles towards the agar collection surface specific to that stage. The diameter of the jet orifices remains consistent within each stage but decreases progressively across successive stages. The spectrum of particle sizes gathered at each stage is contingent upon both the jet velocity of the current stage and the cutoff point established by the preceding stage. Any particle not collected on the first stage follows the air stream around the edge of the Petri dish to the next stage.
